The five themes of geography will be discussed nearly every week over the course of the year. However, these five themes can be found in areas all around the world as we speak. For Tuesday (September 4th), you are to find a recent article (posted or published within the last month) and summarize it in a paragraph. In the paragraph, you should include which theme of geography is most relevant in the article, and explain why you believe that theme is present in the article. Like most things in life, there may not be one correct answer. In fact, there may be multiple themes that are relevant in the article. You need to identify one and summarize your reasoning. Do this first!
Once you summarize your article, you must then respond to two other people's posts. They must be two different people. Explain which theme of geography you think is present in the article, and why. Don't just say, "I agree that location is found in the article". Explain your reasoning in your own words. Again, disagreeing doesn't mean you are wrong; you may have a good argument as well.
**Be sure to include WHERE you got your article from (NY Times, Scholastic, Cedar Rapids Gazette, etc) and the TITLE of the article.
**Be sure to include WHERE you got your article from (NY Times, Scholastic, Cedar Rapids Gazette, etc) and the TITLE of the article.
- Mr. White
My article was about the traveling shoe. What is so unique about this article is that the resources for the shoe came from China. Even though the resources came from China, the shoe was actually MADE in the United States. Of the five themes, I would say movement is most present because the supplies are literally being shipped across the ocean to be made into a shoe in the United States.
ReplyDeleteI agree. Movement of resources is a perfect example of movement.
Deleteill have to agree with u too because the items are being moved across the world even though it is made in the us
DeleteBOOM goes the creeper!
DeleteI agree, it seems like everything now days is made in parts and then shipped to a different country to be put together and then shipped back to others to be sold. So many jobs are lost, because it's cheaper that way.
Deletedefinatly, everything is made in china now
Deletemy article was about fuel overuse. It pretty much said that if we dont clean up our act soon life is going to suck. We have to use a whole lot less than we are. If we cant swich all the way over to battery power soon, we wont have any fuel left. However, the problem is recognized and is being solved with solar, wind, and water power. This has most to do with human enviroment interacton, since we are bboth the cause and the solution, and if we cant solve this, we'll be the victems.
Deletei agree because gas has to do with human enviromental reaction.
Deletei agree because movement is is how other countrys and we get supplies we or they can't make.
DeleteThis article was about Venus. Our nearest neighbor, the planet Venus-nearly identical to Earth in size and density-veils herself in clouds and a crushing atmosphere. Now radar images from the Magellan spacecraft reveal with unprecedented clarity the planet's fractured plains, volcanoes, and crumpled landmasses.I would say movement is most present.Mostly because Venus moves around the sun and it brakes apart every day and gets hotter and hotter as it rotates around the sun.
ReplyDeleteI believe that the article actually revolves around region, since we are talking about large scale features.
ReplyDeleteThe article I am reporting on from Time magazine is about Curiosity. It is roaming around, and recently blasted a rock with a nuclear laser. This is an example of human-environment interaction on another planet. You could also make a case for movement of the rover from here to Mars.
ReplyDeletePS:What's up with these space articles?
ReplyDeleteMy article is about the 70 earthquakes that hit Southern California. I honestly think that this goes along with one of the five themes of geography. I think one of those five themes that this goes along with is the human-enviroment theme. I think this because these earthquakes has damaged the southern part of Californa and has destroyed our people's homes.
ReplyDeleteThis is really interesting stuff and, to be honest, a little concerning. What did the article have to say about the earthquakes, Autumn?
DeleteAbsolutely true Autumn. Human-environmental interaction is not just us messing with nature, it's also nature messing with us. Bravo!
DeleteI too wonder, Autumn, what did the article say about the earthquake? \:]
DeleteHey!! Autumn nice article. I think that you are right about the five theme part. So great job with that. From what you have tould me in the article concerns me but what else happen from the earthquake??? Maybe if you want you could back to article and find out a little more info and then post. But other whys great job on your article!!
DeleteI second that.
DeleteAutumn I agree with you on the theme. Great job with that. what you told me in the article concerns me. What else happened during the earthquakes. Alittle more info would be helpful.
DeleteMy article is about Global Warming. I think of the five themes of geography it best fits is Human-Environment Interaction because the humans can ruin the environment with things like fuel or other types of gases. At the moment zoos are trying to help with Global Warming by installing prominent solar rays over the parking lots to power their exhibits, while others are being more direct when it comes to the Arctic species and the threats caused by Global Warming. Some zoos really try to emphasize how bad the threats are that have happened over the years with things like overfishing or razing of rainforests, and many people get overwhelmed by these facts. After hearing these types of facts, the visitors briefed on positive ways they could help like riding bikes or using public transportation. So, next time before you use transportation maybe think about carpooling to help with Global Warming. This article is from, The New York Times and the title of this article is, Intriguing Habits and Careful Discussions of Climate Change.
ReplyDeleteBest. Example. EVER. We are truly playing with fire here (no pun intended) and if we don't stop pushing nature, it'll push back. We are not just changing an area, or even a region, but the entire planet, and who knows what this may lead to?
Deletei will also have to agree with u considering us living on this planet use cars and set off pollution when if we really could just run or ride bikes to school and make roads just for bikes
DeleteExactly. Virtual high five me, bro!
DeleteI think your post is great, and i`m not arguing what you think it fits with, but the big areas of pollution are just big cities, and those big cities are just tiny splotches on the face of the earth and all the other places are just small and Earth was designed to take care of itself. :)
DeleteIf you were a scientist, you would understand.
DeleteOh, but I DO understand. You don`t have to be a scientist. In a way, it`s a very simple concept, and I learned about it in boyscouts. :}
DeleteAnyway, the problem is being dealt with through solar, wind, and water energy. Plus more energy efficient cars.
DeleteI AM a Scout, and if you want, I could type you the Scout Law by heart. Now, I'm going to log off and play Minecraft.
DeleteI agree with you Kayla!!! I often wonder what i can do daily to help the air not get polluted. I dont think it matters if your in a small city or large one but you can always do something to make sure the air dosent get polluted i believe!
DeleteI agree with you on the choice of Human-Environmental Interaction because we, the people, are ruining the air every second because of pollution from cars and many other things.
DeleteOh and great job on your article.
DeleteGuess what? Kipp disbelieves in global warming! Has he not seen the almost snowless winters or felt the torturous heat this summer? How ignorant can a guy get?
DeleteThe Earth is basically balancing on a knife point. One side it could fall to is icy, snowball Earth. This has happened before. The other is a dry, lifeless desert. Think Venus, Earth's unbearable twin. We are headed towards the latter. We, contrary to Kipp's belief, pumping out more C02 than ever, short of when the Earth was forming and life had yet to form. Take that, Kipp/cliched dissenting Republican!
DeleteI am just PUMMELING Kippp's point! >:-D
DeleteI totally agree because us as humans are polluting the air and our earth!
DeleteI agree because humans are always polluting the air and earth in general. We need to be better about caring for the enviroment.
DeleteI agree to every thing it is all polution.
Deletei agree beacuse as us we have been polluting the earth
Deletei agree it is transportion because the pollution is transported from factoris and it moves places in the air
Deletei agree because pulution is become terrible poeple think that one peice of trash is no harm but when millions of poeple think that its not good.
Deletemy article is about gas prices they are changing over time there getting higher lower as we go along with our lives i would say this is an example of movement because the gas is getting moved from place to place to get to your gas station
ReplyDeleteI agree joey because gas has to be moved from various places to get to gas stations around the world
DeleteI too agree, seeing we need to move oil from A to B.
DeleteI agree but, I think it could equally (not more) fit with human-environment interaction because we`re digging up natural oil from the ground.
DeleteTrue. Nice one, Kipp!
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteIm so sorry didnt mean to delete that. sorry. But as i said you have a very good article and i agree with you. We use cars as our transportating and gas has to be moved around so we can use our cars. Good Job!!
DeleteVery good, Haley. Again, I agree with Joey, and I agree with you.
DeletePS:Avoid that delete button.
Great article joey! I agree with you because the gas is transprting to place to place just to get to our gas stations.
DeleteI also agree with you Joey because for the oil/gas to be drilled it costs money to ship it to us which raises our gas prices to pay them back in return.
DeleteI also agree with joey
Deletebecause it is constantly moving. Good job joey!
I disagree because my mom always get gas king of every day and she doesn't like the gas price to get higher. Every time her gas light is on she always get gas and she doesn't like to get gas she said is smells digusting.
Deleteheyy
Deletemy article is about storm called a "typhoon" in North Korea. They were recovering from earlier floods and storms and were expecting another one soon enough. (I used past-tense because I don`t know when it was published :/)
ReplyDeleteI think it goes best with human-environment interaction because it`s nature "interacting" with us. :]
Right, Kipp. Nature IS interacting with us, and you nailed the point!;P
DeleteExactly right Kipp you were right about past tense because that is what i would have done. Nature is with us all the time and you hit it just right.
DeleteI agree because we are affected by nature and it's out of our control.
Deletenature is toying with us kipp, youre completly right, but with what we've been doing to nature with polution, it's not as if this isn't justified.
DeleteBingo!
DeleteIn Cedar Rapids on August 28th there was a 47 year old man fixing a roof. Then the Cedar Rapids firefighters and police got a call at 11:14 a.m. that the roofing man was feeling "dizzy and weak". The firefighters and police blocked off the entrance from 3rd Street to 8th Avenue because they had to use the firetruck's "bucket" to get the man down from the top of the building. After they got him down, he was transported to Mercy Hospital. I got this information from thegazette.com. I think this article goes with the theme of geography movement. I think this because they had the firetrucks and police cars move to an area for a very important reason, someone was endandered.
ReplyDeleteWow that was a really good article!!! I agree when you said movement the police and firetrucks had to drive to get to the area and they had to move their feet to get to the man. I really enjoyed this article!! Great job Tori!!!
DeleteI agree with you Tori, because they have to move around to get where they need to be, to be able to help, so I think this is a awesome way to describe movement.
DeleteDon't forget Joey's point about the movement of oil. The emergency vehicles had to run on something!
DeleteI definitely think that your article is movement because the firefighters had to get to the place to help te person
DeleteGood aticle... I agree with this. Movement is a big factor in this situation. Cars and trucks moving place to place tring to save a life.
DeleteNice job Tori! I agree with you that movement was a part of this article. movement is all over the place!
DeleteGreat job Tori! I agree with you. Movement is diffinitly part of this article. It is all over the place.
DeleteGood job Tori! I agree. Movement is a main part of this article!
DeleteI agree with you Tori because if they didnt use movement then the old man might have passed out on top of the roof without the firefighters help.
DeleteGreat article Tori. I agree with you that this fits with movement beacuse the fire fighters had to move to there. Also they had to move to get him down.
DeleteAgreed and if he passed out on the roof then he might of rolled off......and died.....and that would of been bad...;(
DeleteMy article is about the Cedar Rapids\Linn County landfill. The trash that we use is soon gonna be put to better use and not being used in a wasteful\dangerous way. The trash that we put in the landfill is gonna soon be our electricity and heat. I belieive that is the best thing the landfill can do for us. Why do i say that??? I say that because right now we burn the trash that we put into the landfill. When they burn the trash that pollutes the air that we breath. When the waste pollutes the air its harmful to all the humans and animals on earth. I found this article in the Cedar Rapdis Gazette, and the title to this article is Agency to turn methane gas from landfill to electricity and heat. I believe this article goes with Human-Environment Interaction.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Haley, because the smoke and gas coming from the landfills pollute the air and nature around us, I think that it would be better if they used solar power for electricity then burning garbage and creating pollution, but anyway I do believe that it goes well with Human-Environment Interaction because we are causing it.
DeleteFirst of all, that was a great article. Second, I agree with your choice of Human-Environmental interaction because when they burn the trash it affects us because it pollutes the air making it hard to breath. Good Job!!!!!!
DeleteAnother genius article. It affects nature, and us.
DeleteAwesome job! That was a good article and I totally agree because like everybody else is saying it affects the air around us.
DeleteNice job Haley! I agree with you that it is Human-Environmental Interaction. Pollution is harmful not only to animals, but the earth and ourselves! We caused the mess of pollution, now we should clean it up! Good work!
DeleteGreat job! I totally agree with you on the theme of this article.
DeleteI agree!i agree because this stuff does pollute the ir great job hayley :)
DeleteGreat article Haley! I totally agree with you! It is the best way the landfil can help us.
DeleteThis article is about the jerseys for the Americans in the 2012 Olympics. I think that the jerseys should have been made in America to show off our skills. But back to the topic, people were pretty mad that they were made in China though. I believe that this article fits in the theme of MOVEMENT, because the materials were shipped to China and the people who work there probably moved to there as well. The company that owned the factory probably moved there as well. This article could fit in to may themes but I think that it fits in MOVEMENT the best!
ReplyDeleteYes Cody I agree. I agree because it was shipped and moved country to country to be made.
DeleteI forgot to mention i got this from when Mr.White said it in class and plus i looked it up on google to find some more information.
DeleteI agree Cody it fits under movement because it is going from one place to another. I think the uniforms in America.
DeleteNice article. You know that the materials also moved to us, and then to London, too, right. Marvelous. Simply marvelous.
ReplyDeleteThe article I have is "Summer Drought". The drought this summer made corn and soybeans price go up. The corn and beans were hauled by trucks to elavators. They were moved there and then went to a factory to be made into food uses and other things. It is good for some people that have crops, but bad for people that have to buy this stuff. I think this article is movement because the corn and beans were moved from place to place and that also created movement in the market for the producer and the buyer of the whole goods and raw materials.
ReplyDeleteI agree movement explains your article very well, good job tanner
DeleteGreat job! Loving the trucks. (:P) But seriously great article.
DeleteI agreee with Tanner but I could see place because the drought only hit certain places in the world and it could be better or worse dependeing on the place.
DeleteI disagree tanner. You farmers have it made.
DeleteMy article was about a high speed chase that ended in a tragedy. A man passed a policeman going 120 mph and was swerving. The man turned a left and hit a median then crashed into a cornfield. The man ended up dying and the police found out that the man was over two times the legal alcohal limit. I think my article is in movement because there cars were moving. My article is The motorcyclist who died during police chase was traveling 124 mph while drunk and I got it from thegazette.com
ReplyDeleteGreat article lexi!!! I agree with you thats its movement because the car was moving and so was the police car. The people were also moving to get to the man that passed away from a stupid mistake by drinking and planning to drive. I enjoyed your article. Great Job!!!
DeleteSad but i guess thats what happens when you do stupid things. Over all it was great and i argree with Movement, its used in alot of ways here.
DeleteMy artical is about new eco friendly cars. I think this topic fits in with Human-Inviroment Interaction, i think this beacause people are building these cars to save the enviroment which we polluted and now are regretting polluting it and are making up for it by building cars that dont pollute our air.
ReplyDeleteJeremy i agree with this, because people are working at building cars... Nice Job..
Deletei agree because eco freandly cars help the enviorment. Good job on your article. It was very interesting.
DeleteMy article talks about new lunch rules in Iowa. Schools around Iowa now have new health regulations to promote good nutrition. The schools, including ours, must start only serving 1-percent or skim milk, whole grain-rich food and are required to take three of five items provided, daily. Although the "three of five" rule is not new, one of the items has to be a fruit or vegetable. Along with that, dark green and red or orange vegetables must be served weekly. I think the theme that fits in here is Movement. I think that because fruits, and vegetables have to come from somewhere, right? They might be grown in different countries, although it is more likely they came from local farms and such, which means they used movement and shipments to get the food here. Also, with the fruits and veggies being grown in gardens and on farms, there is also Human-Environmental Interaction. I got my article from the Cedar Rapids Gazette, or www.thegezette.com. The article was called "New lunch rules take shape in Iowa."
ReplyDeleteNice article Kylee!! I agree with your themes and for us to feed our bellys they have to transport the food to the school. For the Human-Enviroment Interaction i totally agree because the rules and changing and that reflects on our eating habits so i understand why you say that!!! Great Job!!
DeleteI agree with you Kylee, good article. But I also think that Location could be tied in with what you said about movement. Certain fruits and vegetables can only grow in certain places of the world. For the freshest fruits and vegetables to be eaten, they need to be consumed close to where they are grown.
Deletei agree but i also think it could be enviromental interaction because it will make our community healthier
DeleteMy article is about the safety of smart cars. This topic fits in enviormental theme of geography. I did research on MSNBC and found that in many tests the smart car was proven safe and relaiable in both front and rear crashes. It even received and average rating for side impact crashes. Smart car makers are calling it a hit. They are economical way of transportation and the car makers are excited as sales continue to increase every year since the cars came on market in 2008.
ReplyDeleteWhat theme of geography does this artile fall under? That might help alittle.
DeleteI just want to say that I appreciate all of the comments on my blog. Here is more information on the 70 earthquakes that hit Southern California. Several registered stronger than magnitude 4.0 the strongest measured 5.4. The quakes were felt as far away as Yuma,Arizona and,Mexico. The Southern California center called the activity a "very active swarm."This swarm continued to rumble the region for a few days. The director of the Earthquake Center of Southern California said "the swarm was pretty productive and a vigorous one." Scientists will be studying the swarm to learn how the sequence developed and what inpact it could have on the fault. The concern with the significant seismic activity is a higher probability of having more sesmic activity. Their was no casualities that were reported. Not much infastructure damage, except for things built before the 40's when California required stricter building requirements to prevent earthquake damage.
ReplyDeleteGreat Job Autumn thank you so much for more info and this eathquake concerns me very much!!! Good job on the info you put into this article!!!
DeleteEarthquakes great article keep it up Autumn!! :)
DeleteMy article was about a 100 year old man hitting 11 people. The man says he is sorry and thinks that thinks that the brakes failed. The man's Cadillac jumped the curb and plowed into the crowed of children waiting for their parents after a long school day. 9 children and 2 adults were taken to the hospital. None of the vitumns had life threatening injuries. Most only had a few bruises. It does not look like he will be charged. police will find out if faulty brakes were to blame for the accident. I think the article falls under movement. because cars wouldn't be here if people didn't have to travel long distances.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Anna because the car was moving very fast as i take it. I bet the people were also trying to move so they did not get hit but on the sad note, they got hit and had a couple injuries!!! Great article was very exciting!!!
DeleteI agree on movement with you because we use cars everyday!
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteMy article is about how the Brigade of Free Syrians (rebels) bombed Syria's largest city of Aleppo and their air bases. I think this article is related to Human-Enviromental Interaction because the attack caused massive destruction to the city and it's people. The country is now 18 months into the civil war because of uprisings against Assad. I agree that something needs to be done about the whole situation. But is destroying their country and the effects it has on the environment the way to handle things? (My article is from the Saturdays edition of the Cedar Rapids Gazette)
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on most of it Ian but I think it should be region because it it did damage to the city, not the land around it
Deletei agree with noah but still it is a very good article. good job kayla :)
DeleteMy article is about the installation of the stain glass window at Grant Wood's Iowas rest area. They added three new items, a window that is called "American Gothic," they also added some hay bale shaped benches, and a picnic area with a steel replica of an ice wagon. It had opened on August 9 but the art installation wasn't completed until last week. I think this involves Human-Enviroment Interaction because they have modified he environment an have shaped different materials on our environment to make benches an picnic areas. I got my article from the Cedar Rapids Gazette.
ReplyDeletei agree on human enviroment interaction because picnic areas are usually out side
Deletemy article is about the new rules for school lunches. I got the information on this article at thegazette.com. The new rules say that kids must have a half cup of fruits or vegetables with every meal. They also have to have low fat milk and a lot of things in the lunches are whole grain. These rules are to help the obesity of kids today. I think this goes with the theme movement. I say this because all the all the foods that they serve with the new rules have to grow and come from somewhere.
ReplyDeleteGood article Lacey. I agree thatthis fits really well with movement.
DeleteGreat job Lacey. Movement goes really well with this article
DeleteMy article is about Hurricane Katrina. The information is from the New York Times website. In August 2005 Hurricane Katrina hit the USA and left over a million people in 3 states out of power for days. It was leveled at a category three hurricane and had winds at 145 miles per hour. Hurricane Katrina was ranked as one of the worst hurricanes to ever hit the United States. I think that this goes along with the theme Human-Enviormental interaction because it damaged peoples houses and buildings. It also affected peoples lifes.
ReplyDeleteYou have a good point but I think it could also apply to region because it only hit one region of the world not the entire world.
DeleteI agree with allie and kayla because it only hit the coast not the whole US but many people had to help clean up the damage so everthing could be back to normal again.
DeleteI also agree with Kayla because it didnt hit the whole country, or the world. Also, i think you could also apply movement because the people had to leave their homes and go elsewhere.
DeleteI agree but it kinda has to do with the region
DeleteMy article is about the melting of the Arctic Ice and the sheets of ice on Greenland. Since September 18,2007, the ice has melted 27,000 square miles. The last six years have had record low measurements of ice in the Arctic Circle. Scientists say the main reason for the melting of the ice is green house gases. I think this involves human envirmental interaction because green house gases are produced by humans who use cars and own factories, etc. I got my article from the Time Magazine website.
ReplyDeleteMy article was from the Sunday addition of the Cedar Rapids Gazette. The name of the article is High Stakes in ethanol waiver debate. The article is presenting the argument for and against keeping the current renewable fuel standard. The article reported that 40% of the US corn production is currently being used in ethanol productions. Due to the drought it has spiked the price of corn from 5 to 8 dollars per bushel. Backers of the renewable fuel waiver say that with the high prices of corn will drive ethanol plants out of buisness, which will drive people out of work and gas and food prices will go up affecting everyone. Ethanol productions have dropped by 20% since the beginning of the year already. Production will continue to drop if plants are closed. The theme most present to me is Human-Enviorment interaction, because humans are trying to to control corn and gas prices with ethanol use and requirements.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you Kayla. Humans have interacted with the environment the wrongs ways and are now paying the price
DeleteMy article is about: Lessons From Katrina and Rita
ReplyDeleteWhat Major Disasters Can Teach Transportation Planners. They had the time to move out people, but they didn't so it made things very difficult for the people. My article is about movement they could have moved while they had the time, but they didn't. Then they couldn't transport people out of there when the levy broke.
My article is about how schools have changed to nutritious foods. Parts of the new regulations are that they have to have 1% milk, half of a cup of fruit and vegetables. The laws say schools are not supposed to serve them desserts any more (e.g. cinnamon roll, cookies, brownies, cake.). I believe that this is human environmental interaction because it will make our communities healthier. This will also make our children healthier. If we learn to be healthy now we will be healthy when we grow up.
ReplyDeleteMy article is about Hurricane Isaac 2012 that hit the golf coast states. This had an outcome of downed power lines, damaged houses, torn up roads, at least seven people killed and thousand of people who had to evacuate their homes. Within a couple of days, many have had their power restored, and most of the people have returned to their homes. Only 3,500 people remain in a storm shelter. Clean up of Isaac continues to this day because not all the water has recieted back into its banks. I think this is mostly Human-Enviromental Interaction beacuse without everyone cleaning up the mess, there would continute to be debris and hazordous waste in the water. i got this from global.christianpost.com
ReplyDeleteI agree because a hurricane would impact peoples property and homes. The environment can be very powerful.
DeleteI agree that it can be human-enviromental interaction, but I think it could also be movement. I think this because the movement of the hurricane transforming the land, and then the human movement to transform the land back.
DeleteMy article is about a plane crash at the Quad City air show. I think this article is about Movement because planes move people and in this case were putting on a show with their moves. Somehow the pland lost control and crashed into a cornfield. The pilot died and there was a big explosion. The article came from the Sunday Gazette.
ReplyDeleteMy article is about Hurricane Isaac and the remants bringing rain to the drought hit Midwest. The region theme is applied in this article. The remants of the Hurricane dumped rain in the lower U.S. Midwest region. Hurricanes occur in regions by the Ocean. Hurricane Isaac was the first hurricane to strike the U.S. this year and it hit the same New Orleans region almost 7 years after Hurricane Katrina. This time the flood gates prevented major flooding in the area. But there were power outages and some high waters.
ReplyDeleteVery nice Nick! I agree this article is dealing regions and I like your explenation about where it hit the same region as katrina.
Deletei agree because this hurricane was in the regions as they other on was in like katrina
DeleteI agree and hurricane Katrina helped prepare new Orleans for hurricane Isaac.
DeleteMy article is about Hurricane Isaac. I got the information for my article from usnews.com. Just from the 7 year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, Hurricane Isaac hits New Orleans late Tuesday August 27th. Hurricane Isaac was a category 1 hurricane with winds at 80mph; it came ashore at 6:45 p.m. CDT near the mouth of the Mississippi River in southeastern Louisiana. Though it was much less powerful then Hurricane Katrina, Isaac had very strong winds, soaking rains, and knocked power out of more than 200,000 homes and businesses. I feel this article fits into Location and Human-Environment Interaction. This fits into the category location because the location of a place affects what happens to that place, it fits with human-environment interaction because it affect how the people that live there.
ReplyDeleteThe source of my article was found at CNN.com. This article was called Wildfire near Los Angeles disrupts Labor Day weekend. A wildfire started Sunday in Angeles National Forest causing the area to be evacuated and the San Gabriel Canyon area to be closed. There are usually 10,000 to 12,000 people in the area for the holiday but so far only 50 residents and 1,000 campers have had to evacuate and some have gone to the Red Cross center in Glendora. The fire is expected to be an "active fire" because of the low humidity and high temperatures. It's reported the fire was caused by a car catching fire. It has already burned through 4,000 acres and is only 5% contained. Sorry campers but your place has been taken by 400 firefighters, a heavy air tanker, and 6 helicopters working to defeat the fire. :/
ReplyDeleteI think this is an example of Movement since because of the fire people have had to move to safer areas OR it could be Human-Environmental Interaction since it was someone’s car that started it.
I got my source from msnbc.msn.com and the article is called Tropical Storm Isaac Likely to Erode Beaches and it's theme is Movement. It is telling about how hurricane Isaac is likely to cause erosion on the Mississippi and Alabama Coast. It says 78 percent of Florida's West Coast might face the same problem and the worst part is Florida just faced a Tropical Storm called Debby which caused erosion as well. Debby put some dunes and beaches entirely underwater. But it is predicted that the same thing won't happen with Isaac. The reason this article is movement is because the coasts are moving and changing. They are forming into something different and sand is moving into sea from the storms.
ReplyDeleteThe article that i read was titled New lunch rules take shape in Iowa. It was published in the August 30, 2012 edition of the Cedar Rapids Gazette. The article is about us kids eating more healthy in our school lunches. I think it fits under Human Enviromental Interaction, because we have to have at least one scoop of vegetables and one scoop of fruit. Mostly everything that we eat is wholegrain to be more healthy. Why it is Human Enviromental Interaction is that the food we grow from our enviroment is affecting us by making us more healthy.
ReplyDeleteMy article is Lions of Darkness from National Geographic, August 1994. My article is about lions huntng at night in the Chore National Park in Africa. The interesting thing about this article is that when the videographers set up camp, the lions knocked down things and messed up their camp. The lions were playful. Of the five themes of geography, I think Human/Environment Interaction is he most relevant because the author found out that lions can be playful, even though they are meat eaters. The author had to dim his lights so he didn't mess up the lions night-time hunt.
ReplyDeleteYes I agree because the videographers went in to their environment and set up camp. So it was humans seeing how they acted once they were there being watched.
DeleteMy article is from cedar rapids gazette," Sen. Hogg pitches state investment". It basically says a senator is trying to pass a bill to make the University of Iowa start using solar energy and make it one of the top 25 largest sites for it. I think this is Human/enviroment Interaction because it talking about humans using the solar energy for a cleaner, more dependable source of energy. It would make our enviroment better by not depleting resources and causing harm to the enviroment.
ReplyDeleteMy article is about the big bang, They say there was nothing for over a half billion years ago. Then this big ball of energy was created some how and blew up. For a hundred million years stars, galixes every thing was created. Some took more time to be created like our sun and planets were created four billion years ago, and the big bang was created fourteen billion years ago, ten billion years diffrent. Some other galixes might be geting created right now this minute. Nothing would'nt be created without the big bang like they said people wouldnt be created , T.V, earth, animals, nothing sky, water, comets, black holes, monkeys.
ReplyDeleteYAAAAA
DeleteI AGREE CAUSE THERE3S HUMANS AND THE ENVIORMENT
Deletemy artical is about pandas
ReplyDeleteok so theres this professer that found a baby panda in the wild the pandas name was jiao jiao i say that human enviormental interaction is most present
ReplyDeleteMy article is about solar flares and how they can affect us in many diffident ways lately solar weather form the sun has been more active the solar flares can produce emp on earth and could take out the power grid.If the solar storm is strong anothf it could give off radiation which we could get sick from. These storms come in clusters of radiation magnetic pluses if one storm would be an x class flare if it is a very high flare it could take the power gird out it could be vary dangerous if the power grid does go out it could lead to riouting and much more. The most power full storm that happen was in 2003 it was a x28 but it did not get us because the sun magnetic field tuck it a diffient direction but if it were to heat us it would of tuck out all satilites and all of the worlds power grid out. i think human environment interaction
ReplyDeleteMy article is about the oil spill in the gulf of mexico and how it affected the wild life. Oil covered birds, turtles, otters, fish and other sea life died. They only focused on the oil company not the wild life. I think it is about human environment interactions.
ReplyDeleteMy report is about wildfires. Wildfires are extremely dangerous to people, plants, humans, and the land. I believe that wildfires are human-environmental interaction because the wildfires destroy everything in their path including people, trees, plants, houses, and anything else. They can spread really fast. I also think that it can be movement becuse the spread fast. They are most common in California because of the hot weather. People are the main cause of wild fires. So I believe that it is mostly human-environmental interaction.
ReplyDeleteI agree that wildfires are human-envirmental interactions because even if a human wasn't there to start the fire, most likely it was started by something they left there.
DeleteMy report is about Rockwell Collins job cuts. Rockwell has already had it's sixth round of employment reductions in the last fiscal year and are expected to have more cutbacks soon because of lower revenue predictions. Cuts to balance the budget by Congress, is the main reason for half the decline in Government Systems revenue for Rockwell. I think this would be human-environmental interaction because our enviroment affects our economy, which affects the people and companies like Rockwell. This causes people to have to make decisions that affect many others lives. This article is from thegazette.com, 'Rockwell Collins earnings guidance suggests more cuts ahead'.
ReplyDeleteMy artile is about gas prices. The price of gas has highered these past years because gas and oil are set on global market place and more drilling is not the answer, because that's done nothing to reduce prices at the pump. The only thing more drilling has done is increase profits for oil companies – to the tune of $137 billions dollars last year alone.I think this artile fits with human-environmental interaction because gas cost money and the more money we have to pay the poorer we get which make us as poeple unable to pay for bills and keep us fed. This artile came from High Gas Prices: Supply, Demand and the Oil Industry’s Monopoly on Transportation.
